Ever since Dianna Agron went platinum, we’ve been watching the actress find fresh, fun ways to wear her hair. But her bright blonde mane isn’t the only thing we’ve been taking notes on lately. She’s also been rocking really pretty makeup looks that focus almost entirely on her lids. After spotting her step out twice in one day with two particularly eye-catching looks, we had two questions for her makeup artist Georgie Eisdell: What’s the secret to Agron’s on-point shadow, and how do we get the look ourselves? Here’s everything you need to know.

Winged liner may be having a moment — and when it comes to Agron’s notice-me eye makeup, Eisdell goes for simple and classic shadow to play up her client’s “most exquisite almond eyes.” For a gala at the Hammer Museum (left), Eisdell went for a “smudgy, sexy vibe” by applying Bobbi Brown’s Long-Wear Cream Shadow Stick in Tuxedo at the lash line and blending it with a brush — and her fingers. “I wanted it to look like she had done it herself, just smudged a little black liner and off she went.” She finished with one coat of YSL mascara so the look felt easy, not overdone.

For a gallery event (center), Agron’s cat eye was so captivating that Eisdell simply captioned an Instagram photo, “That face!” To create this “defined, chic” liner look, Eisdell drew Tom Ford’s Eye Defining Pen across the lash line from the inner corners extending slightly on the outer corners. Then, she used black eye shadow at the outer corners to complete the cat eye shape. She defined the eyes further by lining Agron’s inner rims with Jillian Dempsey’s Khôl Eyeliner in Jet Black, and finished the look with lashes.

Agron’s most dramatic eye look recently was created for UNICEF’s Masquerade Ball. “I wanted her eyes to be super sultry, so I went to town on them,” says Eisdell. The result? A smoky eye with some sheen and shimmer. To intensify Agron’s lids, Eisdell used a damp brush to apply M.A.C’s metallic black Mineralize Eye Shadow, Cinderfella. Then she amped that color up with Chanel Illusion d’Ombre in Mirifuque, a deeper black with double the sparkle. She lined Agron’s inner eyes with a gel liner and added a metallic pop at the bottom inner corner of her lids with Chanel Illusion d’ombre in Fantasme, an icy silver. Two coats of mascara plus lashes added just the right dose of drama.
